Comanche - ELMO EARL BOUNDS, 95, of Comanche, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2008, in his home west of Comanche.
Funeral services will be held in the United Methodist Church of Comanche on Tuesday, April 29, at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery of Comanche, with Rev. Steve Hanshaw and Bro. Billy Morgan officiating, under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home.
Elmo Bounds was born Sept. 25, 1912, to Robert and Bertha Duncan Bounds, west of Comanche. He married Grace Smith on April 4, 1936. They were married 64 years prior to her death in 2002.
As a young man, Bounds worked in the oilfields of Wyoming and Colorado, and in various defense plants during World War II. He was a homebuilder in the Comanche and Duncan area, as well as a farmer and rancher until his retirement in 1990.
Bounds was instrumental in introducing the Charolais breed of cattle to this area in the early 1960s. During that time, he produced quality cattle recognized throughout the United States.
He was the oldest living member of the United Methodist Church in Comanche.
Survivors include his daughters, Joan Shutts and husband Jack, and Jean Bezner and her husband Bob, all of Comanche; four granddaughters, Cari Montgomery of Celina, Texas, Leslie Rae Bezner, Sacramento, Calif., Sherry Lynn Fick and husband Daniel of Liberal, Kan., and Lisa Jo Bezner of Boston, Mass.; great-grandchildren, Ashli Montgomery Simpson and her husband Kesto of Comanche, Justin Montgomery of Celina, Texas, Beau Fick and Shelisa Ray Fick of Liberal, Kan.
Bounds is also survived by his sisters, Murry McClennen of Comanche, and Murrell Brooks of Thorndale, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Flora Boyd of Wortham, Texas.
Bearers will be nephews, Mack McClennen, Ronald McClennen, Robert J. Boyd, Dan McClennen, Phil Brooks and Daniel Fick.
Honorary bearers will be Jack McClennen, Jerry Benson, Randy Montgomery, Justin Montgomery and Beau Fick.
