Daughter of Burdette Z. Wood and Olive Sperry. From stories told sounds like Mom was a little stinker. She would often stay at Mrs Peterson's in Grand Meadow to give her Mom a break.

Mom met my Dad at a "Barn Dance". Bill (Wm. T. Kamish) and Maxine were married August 18, 1943 in Albert Lea, Minnesota while Dad was home on leave.

Maxine worked as an RN at the St. Olaf Hospital in Austin, Minnesota on the maternity floor. We kids never realized she was even working, as she worked the midnight shift and was always home to get us up and off to school. She once said she would quit work when the babies started coming back having babies. So when they moved up to Bloomington, Minnesota, she retired from nursing after 18 years. She then went to work for J.C. Penneys in the Custom drapery dept.

The Vikings were her favorite team, and you didn't dare call or visit during those games. Cardinals were her favorite birds, and every time I see a cardinal, I say "Hi Mom", knowing she's watching over me.

What I miss the most is the fun we would have when we would go to "Garage Sales" every Thursday morning. We didn't need any of the stuff, but would laugh and giggle at all the junk people would be selling and still come home with a car load. About noon we'd always stop for lunch and compare our bargains. We also went to the sale after Thanksgiving, with all the girls in the family, standing outside in freezing temps hours before they opened, then fighting the crowds for that special gift. That's what I really miss...all the fun and laughter that came naturally to my MOM.

Mom died of complications of her breast cancer. After 5 years she thought she was cancer free, but it came back.

As my best friend, I miss her so much at times it just hurts... Karol
