ELK RAPIDS, ANTRIM COUNTY, MICHIGAN, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 1929
MRS. R. C. REX
Abigail May Lombard was born at Bangor, Michigan, on the 19th day August, 1866. She was the daughter of F. W. Lombard, who for many years held a prominent position with the Elk Rapids Iron CoBwpany. She came to Elk Rapids in 1882 and has resided here ever since, with the exception of a few years spent in Elkhart, Indiana.
She was married first to Charles McLaughlin and to them two sons were born, Charles and Prank, latter lost his life in the World War.
She was married second to Robert C. Rex, who departed this life about a month ago. Mrs. Rex passed away September 8, 1929, survived by the following relatives: her son, C. McLaughlin of Detroit; her mother, Mrs. M. E. Lombard; her brother Ernest Lombard and her sister, Mrs. Replogte (the latter three, all of Elkhart); a brother, Frank Lombard, of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother Fred Lombard, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; her granddaughter, Miss Wanda McLaughlin has been a member of the household for some years.
Mrs. Rex was a graduate of the Elk Rapids high school and was a member of the local Rebekah Lodge.
For many years she served as secretary of the Cemetery Association and was active in its work. She joined the Elk Rapids Presbyterian church in 1885 and has been connected with that organization the longest of any one now living. Her interest in the church was great and it might be said of her as the Apostle Paul said of one of his helpers: "She was a servant of the church." She served as Superintendent of the Sunday School and as teacher, was at times the church organist and has been for a long time President of the Ladies Aid. Mrs. Rex was faithful to duty
in a wide circle of activities and will be greatly missed. Having kept the faith, we trust that she is now entered into her reward.
The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Tuesday morning, conducted by Rev. E. H. Vail. The Rebekah lodge attended in a body.
