Coach George C. Buchheit was the head basketball coach at the University of Kentucky from 1920 to 1924. His record with the Wildcats was 44-27, including 13-1 and 13-3 seasons. He also was the assistant football coach and head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats track team, the track team winning the Kentucky Inter-collegiate Championship in 1920. He left Kentucky to coach at Trinity College in North Carolina. He went to Duke in 1926 and he coached there for four years.

He was a track star at the University of Illinois and also played basketball and football there before going to the University of Kentucky and graduating from there. He later was a civil engineer for the State of Illinois.

Funeral services for George C. Buccheit of Springfield will be held Saturday morning at Broadman-Smith Funeral Chapel. Mr. Buchheit, a former athletic coach at the University of Kentucky and Duke University was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Luke Buchheit and graduated from the Beardstown high School in 1915.
