A Very Sad Case
Last Friday, MRS. A. LOVETT, accompanied by two small children and the corpse of another one, arrived here from Quanah, Texas, without money and knowing anyone. The operator at the depot notified MRS. MCDONALD whose hotel is at the depot, and that lady at once came to her assistance. Mrs. Lovett was very sick and she was taken by Mrs. McDonald to a room and sent for a doctor. Mrs. Lovett's husband is at Dexter, Texas and little knew what was in store for him. At Quanah, her child of 18 months took sick and died. The poor woman's means were exhausted there. Clinging to the corpse of the little one, she managed, after a rough journey, to reach her. Her mother's instinct strong in desire to lay it close to the little mound at Oakland where another of the family is buried. Saturday morning the physician told her it would be madness, even death for her to continue the journey, consequently the little funeral procession proceeded to Oakland where the little one was laid to rest. The oldest boy was dispatched to Dexter to notify his father of his wife's dangerous illness. He arrived last night just in time to see his wife before death. The lady died this morning and tomorrow a casket containing the mother's remains and a wee little babe will be taken to Oakland where another mound will mark their last resting place. When seen at Mrs. McDonald's today, Mr. Lovett said he could not express feelings to tell the gratitude he owed Mrs. McDonald for her care and attention bestowed upon his wife, and broken hearted at his bereavement, he could say no more.
