He is survived by his only child Esther Rose Robards-Forbes of Charlotte, North Carolina, his wife Mary Forbes of San Antonio, numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Mack worked as a cowboy, ranch foreman and in the South Texas oil field. He loved the outdoors and working with animals. Most of all he loved to tell a good story.
Mack suffered from severe third degree burns for much of his life after an oil field accident. The burns led to the condition that eventually claimed his life 38 years later. His body has been donated to the University of Texas Southwest Medical Center so that more can be learned about the long-term effects of severe burns.
A memorial service was held at St. James Episcopal Church in Hebbronville Texas on April 27, 2008.
