Mary Barnes, 78, Dies in Hospital
Mary Zacharias Barnes, 78, of 818 W. Birch, died Sunday at a local hospital.
She was born Nov. 9, 1874 in Pennsylvania. At the age of 22 she was married and moved to Nebraska. She also lived in Pendleton for a short time before coming to Milton-Freewater where she made her home until 1939. In that year she came to Walla Walla to reside with her daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Fortier.
Besides her daughter, Mrs. Fortier, she is survived by six children, Mrs. Ralph Loomis of Echo, Nev., Mrs. H. F. Richwine of Portland, Mrs. J. L. Salsbury of Kerman, Calif., Clarence Zacharias of Milton-Freewater, Eugene Zacharias of Enterprise, Ore., Elmer Whitney of Seattle; stepsons, Daniel Zacharias of Milton-Freewater, Joe Zacharias of Escondido, Calif., William Zacharias of Walla Walla; two sisters and one step-brother in Pennsylvania, 25 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Methodist Church.
