David Austin Mashburn, 91, of Noah Gibson Road, Franklin, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at a local nursing home.

He was a native of Macon County, the son of the late Ras and Anna Bryson Mashburn.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, where he worked in the ammunition depot and served in several areas of the South Pacific Theatre. He worked for Zickgraf Lumber, was a carpentry worker and attended Ridgecrest Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Lee Pannell Mashburn; two daughters, Martha Bates and husband Danny "Chuckie" of Franklin, and Betty Annette Williams and husband Jim of Clayton, Ga.; one son, Marvin Mashburn and wife Frankie of Franklin; one sister, Ella Mae Sykes of Mountain City, Tenn.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, James David Mashburn; one sister, Effie Tallent; three brothers, Otis Mashburn, George Mashburn and Charlie Mashburn; and one grandson, James David Mashburn Jr.


Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Thursday, April 24, in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with Revs. Thomas Fouts, Robert Dryman, and Bill Wooten officiating.

Burial was in the Ridgecrest Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jimmy Williams, Charles Williams, Ricky Mashburn, Marty Mashburn, Danny Bates, and Greg Moore. The VFW Post 7339 and the American Legion Post 108 performed complete military graveside rites.
