Hubert S. Welle

Hubert Stephen Welle, the 3rd of 10 children of Christoph & Elizabeth (Primus) Welle, was born December 26, 1873 in Spring Hill, Stearns County, Minnesota.

On February 1, 1897, when Hubert was 24 years old, he married Anna Sand in Meire Grove, Minn. The couple took over the Welle ancestral farm north of the village of Spring Hill - Section 17 of Spring Hill Township (see PHOTO section).

Purchase of the family farm was possible because Hubert's parents, Christoph and Elizabeth Welle, and their younger children - Mary, Elizabeth and Anton, moved to a farm north east of Meire Grove, Minn that they purchased from Elizabeth's parents, John and Catherine Primus.

Hubert and Anna Welle had 13 children:

1. Christ Welle
2. Elizabeth Welle
3. Nicholaus Welle
4. Michael Welle
5. Henry Welle
6. Alphonse Welle
7. Peter Welle
8. Anna Thull
9. Pauline Meyer
10. William Welle
11. Hubert Welle
12. Rose Moening
13. Alvina Klaphake

Anna (Sand) Welle died in October 1, 1930. A widower for more than 8 years, Hubert married Mary Hollenhorst on June 7, 1939 in Greenwald, Minn. Hubert and Mary, along with Hubert's younger children and Mary's five children, moved to a house at East 2nd Street South in Melrose, Minn.

The 1940 US Census shows that Hubert and Mary (Hollenhorst) Welle lived in Melrose, Minn and were 66 and 45 years old, respectively. Also residing in the household in May 1940 were:

- Alvina Welle - age 21
- Rose Hollenhorst - age 20
- Regina Hollenhorst - age 17
- Martha Hollenhorst - age 12
- Elmer Hollenhorst - age 8
- Alma Hollenhorst - age 5

Hubert S. Welle died on May 25, 1943 in Melrose, Minn. He is buried next to his wife, Anna (Sand) Welle, in St. Michael's Cemetery in Spring Hill, Minn.
