The funeral services over the body of Joseph Brodie, Esq, were held in the Union church at Edwards village on Saturday morning last, Rev. Dr. J. S. Lee, of Canton, officiating. He died from a sudden stroke of paralysis, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth B. Anderson, in Knoxville, Tenn, Nov 6th, 1893. He was born in Hamburg German of Scotch parentage; was educated in the schools of Edinburg, and settled in Edwards in 1843. He occupied prominent positions, having been elected supervisor for some twenty years. He moved to Clinton, Iowa in 1875, and after the death of his wife in 1878, resided with his daughter. His oldest son, Alex Osward, was an early student in St. Lawrence University, and graduated at West Point in 1870. He is now a civil engineer and recorder of Yavapai county, Prescott, Arizona. He was present at the funeral.

His son Alexander Brodie was governor of the Arizona Territory and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
