Mary Lyon Miles Lindsay Obituary

1932 - 2024

Cottonwood Heights, UT-Mary Lyon Miles Lindsay peacefully passed away at the age of 91 on Feb. 7, 2024 in her home surrounded by family. Raised in St. George, Utah as the daughter of Maurice Jarvis Miles and Mary Lyon Miles, she was a strong, faithful, independent woman with a love of learning and many interests including art, history, tennis, swimming, politics, genealogy, sewing, cats, and people.

She was a graduate of Brigham Young University and served as a missionary in the California Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that included Los Angeles and San Diego. She worked as a teacher prior to her mission to pay her own way. On her mission she met another missionary, William Dean Lindsay, whom she would later date in Provo and marry in 1957. Their romance and profound friendship only grew over their 63 years of marriage. Together they raised six children and gave them a foundation of faith and skills to navigate life. Dean passed away in 2020. Family members rejoice that they are now together again.

Her love of athletics kept her body strong to the end. She was very tough but had a gentle soul. She was proud of her pioneer heritage and strong in her faith.

She was passionate about the cause of liberty and sought to make her nation and community a better place through her involvement in politics, education, and many honorable causes. She was also noted for her love of animals, especially cats. At the end, her dying body was gently guarded by a beautiful feral cat that she had largely tamed. The cat gladly served as a comfort animal, quickly coming to her side or on her pillow to comfort Mary in times of distress.

She was an avid genealogist who taught her family about their ancestors and their legacy of faith. She was a consistent journal keeper. She opened her home to people from many cultures and nations over the years. Mary had an unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ and the Restoration.

She is survived by her six children, Jeffrey (Appleton, WI), Michael (Salt Lake City, UT), David (Sandy, UT), Carolyn (Aurora, IL), Rosalie (Cottonwood Heights, UT), and Joseph (Herriman, UT). She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren (and one deceased), sixteen great grandchildren, and many other family members who loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 7035 South Nutree Drive in Cottonwood Heights. A viewing will be held on Friday, Feb. 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A funeral service to honor Mary will be held Feb. 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park, 17111 S. Camp Williams Road in Bluffdale on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 2:00 p.m. For a more complete obituary, see https://www.serenityfhs.com/obituaries/Mary-Lindsay-5/#!/Obituary.
