Carolyn passed from this life on February 12, 2024 at the age of 75. She was born on December 10, 1948 to Leonard and Helena Berndt Lauritsen. She grew up in Danevang, Texas and was baptized and confirmed in the Danevang Lutheran Church.


After graduating from El Campo High School, Carolyn attended Wharton County Junior College and moved to Houston, where she had a successful career as an Executive Secretary at Occidental Chemical and later as the Corporate Secretary at Sysco Corporation. Carolyn retired from Sysco in 2009 and moved to El Campo in 2012 to be near her mother and sister.


Carolyn was lovingly devoted to her family and friends. She was a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt, as well as a dear friend to so many who knew and loved her. She was always ready to lend a helping hand and a listening ear to those in need. She was quick-witted and playful, and was especially fond of spending time with her family. Carolyn served on the Board of Directors for the Danish Heritage Preservation Society for many years, and was appointed as Secretary by the Board of Directors.


Survivors include her brothers, Paul Brodsgaard (Bobbie) of Muldoon, TX and Mark Lauritsen (Janet) of Cypress, TX; step-daughter, Carol Rupp of Fairhope, AL; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.


Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Linda Shelton; and husband, Marland Mitchell.


On Monday, February 19, Carolyn's family will host a visitation at 1:00 p.m., with a graveside service at Danevang Lutheran Cemetery immediately following at 2:00 p.m.


In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carolyn may be made to the Danish Heritage Preservation Society, P.O. Box 368, Danevang, TX 77432; the Danevang Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 246, Danevang, TX 77432; the Danevang Lutheran Cemetery, P.O. Box 366, Danevang, TX 77432; or a charity of choice.
