Iris Marie Elliott died peacefully on April 2, 2008 following a lifetime of service to her family, friends and community. She was a much-loved mother, grandmother, sister, friend and "Aunt Sis" who last November was preceded in death by Robert, her husband of 61 years.
Iris was born September 18, 1925 in Stanton, North Dakota to Ernest and Marie Fowler and was the 3rd of 8 children. She initially came to Seattle during World War II to work in the Signal Corps before marrying and raising her family. She was a talented seamstress, upholsterer, and carpenter who owned and operated Elliott's Upholstery for many years. She was the only mom in the neighborhood to have her own complete set of tools, and despite her small frame, she could fix anything. Iris volunteered for many organizations including the Emerson Elementary and Rainier Beach Jr. - Sr. High School Parent Teacher Associations, the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, the American Cancer Society, and the annual Children's Orthopedic Penny Drive.
Iris is survived by 4 children and 10 grandchildren: Konny and Ron Newcomb of Nine Mile Falls and their daughter Erin of Seattle; Kathy and Ed Price-Wong of Seattle and their children Colby (Sandra) of Madrid, Spain and Danielle (Jake) of Tacoma; Dan and Kim and Dana Bagley and their children Cody and Cree of Cle Elum. She is also survived by siblings Harry Fowler of Eureka, Montana; Jeanne Gray of Coolin, Idaho; Lyndall Knutson of Deer Park; Nikki Adams
of Seattle; and Lance Lowden of Sagel, Idaho.
Family graveside services were held at the Tahoma National Cemetery, as per Iris' request. Memorial may be made in her name to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Alaska, Montana, Northern Idaho and Washington, 811 First Avenue, Suite 520, Seattle, WA 98104.
Special thanks to Nikki and Wally Adams for their unflagging support.
