Private First Class Bishop, of Gaylord, Michigan. He was raised in St. Claire Shores Michigan and moved to Gaylord in 2000, attended Gaylord High School, earning his GED at age 17, ahead of his class when he was just a sophomore. In August 2006, John enlisted in the United States Army, following a long line of family military service. When John was a freshman in high school, he met Diane Lynn Caddell and they married in Las Vegas on July 19, 2007. Currently assigned to the 1st Squadron, 32nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, John was deployed to Iraq in September of 2007 and died in Golden Hills of injuries suffered in a vehicle incident half-way through his first tour of duty. His awards and decorations include: Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal; Iraqi Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Combat Infantry Badge; Expert Infantry Badge; and Weapons Qualification, M4, expert. The Bronze Star and Purple Heart, were awarded post death. He is survived by his wife; his parents John and Gaye Bishop of Gaylord; maternal grandparents, Arthur and Marlene LeCuru of St. Clair Shores; nieces, Ashley and Amanda Katchmark; brothers and sisters, Lisa Katchmark of Fowlerville, Bernie Bishop of Brighton, Jennifer Tye of Rochester Hills and SSG Kevin (Andrea) Tye of St. Louis, Missouri; father and mother-in-law, David and Tammie Caddell of Gaylord; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Christine, Angela, David, Ashley and Megan Caddell, all of Gaylord.
