Sylvia Marie (Erwin) Burdue February 07, 1934 - February 07, 2024


Sylvia Marie Erwin Hull Burdue, 90, a resident of Booneville, Arkansas, was born on February 7, 1934, in El Dorado, Arkansas (Union County), to the late Robert Douglas Erwin of Shreveport, Louisiana, and stepdaughter of David "Jack" Byron Guinn, and Esther "Marie" (Brady) Erwin Guinn from Booneville, Logan County, Arkansas. She passed away on February 7, 2024.


She was the beloved granddaughter of Thomas "Tom" David Guinn and Gertie (Cantrell) Guinn from Booneville, Logan County, Arkansas, and James Thomas Brady and Mabel Celeste (Jordan) Brady from El Dorado, Union County, Arkansas.


Survivors include three sons, David (Christine) Burdue, Jeff (Janet) Burdue, Joel Burdue, and a daughter, Shawn Pierce (Dan). She is also survived by grandson Hunter (Amanda) Burdue and great granddaughters Bella and Lily Burdue; and granddaughters Laci Burdue Bontrager (Jason), Racheal Addis (Jason) and Rebecca Pierce. Two brothers William "Bill" Erwin (Heidrun) from Durham, NC, and Neil Erwin (Glenda) of Shreveport, LA.


She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Eileen Guinn Campbell of Booneville, AR, and brother John Erwin, of Shreveport, LA.


Sylvia pursued her education at Arkansas Tech University, graduating with a degree in Elementary Education. And also earned her Masters Degree in Education. Her teaching career included practice teaching in Smackover, Arkansas, and positions at Stamps Elementary School, Stamps Middle School, Booneville Elementary School, and Paris Elementary School. She concluded her teaching career in 1985 to embark on a missionary journey with Youth With a Mission (Y.W.A.M.), during which she visited Guatemala and Mexico.


In 1952, Sylvia married Jimmy Hull, and together they had three sons: David (Christine), Jeff (Janet), and Joel.


In 1964, she married James Perry Burdue in Stamps, Arkansas, and welcomed Shawn Pierce (Dan) into the family.


Sylvia devoted herself to an intercessory prayer ministry and collaborated with various local churches. Additionally, she was an accomplished watercolor painter and an active member of the Booneville Art Group.


The funeral service took place on 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 10, 2024, with a graveside burial at Oak Hill Memorial Cemetery in Booneville, Arkansas, under the compassionate direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville, AR.


The family expresses deep gratitude to Oak Manor Nursing Home, Arkansas Hospice, Area Agency on Aging, and special friends Jonathan Davis, Crystal Jorden, Sandy Davis, the Booneville Art Group, Mary Reese, and her neighbors for their unwavering support during this difficult time.
