Wayne E. Smeltzer, Sr., age 79, of York, passed away on February 4, 2024 at WellSpan York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Rita J. (Topper) Smeltzer; together they shared 59 years of marriage.
Wayne was born in York on February 10, 1944 and was the son of Daniel and Velma (Landis) Smeltzer. He was a woodworker and always had his pocketknife at the ready. Wayne was also a member of Nashville Volunteer Fire Company in Spring Grove. Wayne worked as a machine operator for ESAB in Hanover, where he retired after 40 years.
In addition to his loving wife Rita, Wayne is survived by his children Connie Whitacre and Wayne "Butch" E. Smeltzer, Jr., and wife Tana; his grandchildren Chelyna, Jacob, Zachary, and Brandon; and his great-grandchildren Blake, Cleo, and Samuel. He is also survived by his sister Karen Burd. Wayne was preceded in death by his son in law Kim Whitacre; and his brothers Dale and Robert.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Wayne's life will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 11:00AM at Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., of Spring Grove, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, PA 17362. He will be laid to rest following the service at Mount Prospect Cemetery in Seven Valleys. Viewings will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM and on Tuesday from 10:00AM – 11:00AM both at the funeral home.
