* Documentation taken from Fold-3 Military Records and a Book confirm the following: George W. Akins enlisted August 9, 1862 in Springfield, MO., Age: 26. Pvt., Co. "D" of 8th Missouri Volunteer Cavarly, USA in the Civil War. Jan. 12, 1863 to May 1, 1863 - Absent Without Leave and in Custody at Stragglers Camp near Springfield, MO. Died: Nov. 4, 1864 in Military Prison at Little Rock, Arkansas of chronic disease while serving sentence due to Gen. Court Martial at Little Rock, Ark. Tried for charges of Theft and Desertion and found Guilty and sentenced to forfeit all pay due to come and confined to hard labor. Memorial created by: Veterans Affairs - Maintained by Ralph Biggs.
