Faye Porter, age 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in Providence, Alabama on Sunday, February 4, 2024. She was the third of eight children, born to Jessie Edward and Rubye Phillips Luker in Demopolis, Alabama on February 16, 1943.
Faye started out working as a Switchboard Operator for AT&T Telephone Company in Demopolis, Alabama. She later changed occupations and began doing income tax preparation, which she has done for over 50 years. She was the franchise owner of the H & R Block office in Linden, Alabama for the majority of those years. Faye also served as a councilwoman on the Providence Town Council for a number of years. Faye enjoyed cutting grass, going to the beach, reading books, helping Rich sell watermelons and sweet potatoes, and spending time with her family. Faye and Dick have been married for 59 years as of January 27th.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Edward and Rubye Phillips Luker; three brothers, Edward Luker (infant), Harold Luker and Kerry Luker; two sisters, Janiece Hill and Patricia (Patsy) Coats.
Faye is survived by her husband, Richard L. (Dick) Porter; daughter Beth Porter Jones (Scott); son Richard L. (Rich) Porter II; brother James (Jimbo) Luker (Suzanne), sister Pam Luker Durham (Keith); brothers-in-law Bill Porter and Sammy Coats; sisters-in-law Peggy Luker and Joyce Luker; numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 2pm at the Magnolia Cemetery in Magnolia, Alabama. Kelly Etheridge will be officiating the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
