James was the son of Jeremiah (Darby) DOYLE and Eleanor (Ellen) Whelan. He as the oldest son and come to Australia with his mother in 1826 to join his father who was a convict. He married Margaret LARKIN in 1851. Initially buried at Devonshire St Cemetery, he was one of those whose remains were re-interred at Rookwood Catholic Cemeteries and Crematoria, on the 5th March 1901. Shares his plot with his mother, father, wife and brother Jeremiah.
