George Cleo Crawford

George Cleo Crawford, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend completed his earthly journey on November 14, 2006 in Boise, Idaho surrounded by loved ones.

George was born March 13, 1915 in the small community of Enterprise, Utah. He was one of the seven children born to George Edward Crawford and Rhoda Douella Elliker. His siblings included two brothers and four sisters. He attended schools in Enterprise, graduating from Enterprise High School and then attending Dixie College in St. George, Utah.

He fell in love with Edra Barlow, who was the sister of his good friend Ivin. They were married in the St. George Temple on June 1, 1939. They were blessed with six children. George and Edra enjoyed nearly 60 years together before her passing on February 15, 1999. George believed that "It isn't good for man to be alone." It wasn't long until he met and married Verna Allred Peck on June 17, 2000.

George was well known as a professional and dedicated farmer. His flawless fields were admired by many. He farmed in the Beryl valley for most of his life, raising alfalfa, grain, and potatoes. The later years of his life before finally retiring at the age of 85, were spent raising crops in eastern Lincoln County, Nevada. He also raised a huge garden that was generously shared and enjoyed by many.
George served faithfully in many capacities for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The highlight was when he served as Bishop of the Pioche Ward while in his mid-70''s. He lived many years and often attributed his long life and good health to his faithful service in the Church.

The most important work George did in this life was in raising his six children who all survive him; Mary Ellen (Morley) Wilson of Enterprise, currently serving in the Nauvoo Illinois Mission, Gerald (Sybil) of LaCenter, Washington, Eldon (Brenda) of Winnemucca, Nevada, Kevin (Janet) of Hurricane, Utah, Donnene (John) Mathews of Pioche, Nevada and Jillene (Kent) Langston of Boise, Idaho. He is also survived by 43 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, a total posterity of 160. He is also survived by 1 sister, Leona Balen.

He was preceded in death by wife Edra, his parents, brothers John and Orin, sisters Pheby Dahl, Hertha Leavitt, and Ida Wade, and great-grandson Ethan Barnes.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 22 at 11:00 AM at the Enterprise Stake Center. A viewing will be held from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM prior to the services. Burial will be in the Enterprise Cemetery following the service.
