At age 22, when he married Mattie, Caroline County's Register of Marriages records that he is living in Spotsylvania County and Mattie is living in Caroline County.

In 1898 his son, Harry Cephas Lee, was born in Caroline County. On the 1900 census, his wife is listed as a Widow living in Port Royal, Caroline County, Virginia, USA.
