Christiana Donavan was baptized on 8 October 1643 at the Church of Saint Andrew in Plymouth, Devonshire, England, a daughter of Robert Donavan (Donaphan) and Margaret Williams (m. 20 October 1642).


She was known as "Christian".


Christiana Donovan (Dounnavan) married John Bourne on 31 January 1668/69 at the Church of Saint Andrew in Plymouth, Devonshire, England.


John Bourne and Christiana Donavan were the parents of the following children, all baptized at Charles Church in Plymouth, Devonshire, England.


  1. Andrew Bourne, bp. 28 November 1669 (single).
  2. John Bourne, bp. 8 June 1673 (m. Elizabeth Johnson).
  3. Hugh Bourne, bp. 4 Mar 1676/77 (died young).
  4. Robert Bourne, bp. 30 May 1680 (m. Elizabeth ______).
  5. Peter Bourne, bp. 22 June 1684 (single).


Christiana (Donavan) Bourne removed to Virginia with her sons in late 1689.


The widow Christiana (Donavan) Bourne married second Henry Johnson of Saint Mary's Parish, Essex County (present-day Caroline County), Virginia in 1695.


On 2 October 1700, Mrs. Christian Johnson was made administratrix of her unmarried son Andrew Bourne's estate in Richmond County, Virginia during the minority of his youngest brother Peter Bourne who was qualified as an underage heir-at-law.


Mrs. Christian Johnson wrote her will on 8 August 1712 mentioning her three surviving sons John Bourne, Robert Bourne and Peter Bourne. The will was proved on 13 August 1713.

In the name of God Amen, the 8th day of Aug. 1712, I Christian Johnson being sick and weak in body but in sound and perfect memory thanks be to God for the same, I do make and ordain this my last will and testament.


First, I give my soul to almighty God who gave it and my body to the earth, etc., Imprimis ― I give unto my two sons, John Bourne and Robert Bourne, each of them twelve pounds to be paid to them by my executor. 2ndly, I give and bequeath to my well beloved son Peter Bourne, whom I constitute, make and ordain my only and sole Executor of this my last will and testament, a negro woman named Bess to all my worldly estate by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed and do hereby wholly evoke, annul and disallow all or any other former testament or wills, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. Signed: Christian Johnson. Wit: Henry Mackie, Richard Johnson; John Broadley. At a court held for Essex county the 13th day of Aug., 1713, this will was proved by the oath of Peter Bourne the exer. herein named and by the oaths of Henry Mackie and Richard Johnson two wit. hereto is recorded.
