Elmer was born in Quitaque, Texas on July 30, 1936 to Lloyd P. and Laura B. (Hanna) Edwards. As a young man, he would relocate to Amarillo, Texas where he spent a great part of his life. On November 29, 1972, Elmer married the love of his life, Mamie "Ruth" Thomas. Elmer was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. There was nothing he wouldn't do to help someone in need.

Elmer was a master craftsman, technician, and gunsmith. He worked for Southwestern Public Service for 15years prior to opening his own service company. For the next 25 years, he owned and operated Edwards Refrigeration until his retirement.

Elmer was an avid hunter, and a prolific reader who could spend entire days in the pages of a Western Novel. Elmer was very proud to have served Hollywood Road Community Church, which grew to be known as Journey Church, as a deacon for the better part of a decade.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Laura. Those left to cherish his memories are his beloved bride Ruth Edwards of the home, sons Randy Edwards and wife Sandy, Rodney Edwards, Bill Quisenberry and wife Jenny, and Larry Quisenberry and wife Cindy, his daughters Lisa Edwards, and Debbie Wynne and husband Michael; 14 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother Bill Edwards, sisters Vemell Stamatis, and Linda Parker; and many other loving family members and dear friends.
