JUNE 22, 1926 – JANUARY 29, 2024
Eugene Gray Dobbins, age 97, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024 at home.
Funeral services will be held at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home, Thursday, February 1st, 2024 at 2:00pm; with Reverend Steve Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm prior to the service.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; Luther Leonard Dobbins and Lillie Christine Willis Dobbins. His four sisters; Mamie Moore, Annie Lee Boling, Gladys Falls, and Mildred Valentine; His four brothers; James, Lester, Henry and Julius Dobbins. Wives; Bobbie O'Quinn Dobbins and Helen Jannell Watson Dobbins. His daughter Regina Dobbins and Grandson Daniel Lynn Dobbins.
Survivors are his daughter Pam Strickland (David) of Tuscaloosa; Son Larry Dobbins of Tuscaloosa; Grandchildren; Niki Wilson, Christi Strickland Allen, and Colby Dobbins. Great Grandchildren; Daniel Logan Allen and Corbin Rich Allen.
Eugene started working as soon as he began walking, born to a family that share cropped for a living. When he turned 18 years old, he was drafted into World War II in 1944. He fought in Germany and was honorably discharged from the Army. When Eugene returned home, he worked at B.F. Goodrich until he retired in 1985. From 1969 through 1975, he coached Oakdale Little League Baseball. Eugene loved his family, fishing and farming. His family loved him and will miss him every day.
Pallbearers will be Colby Dobbins, David Strickland, Luke Allen, John Dee Carruth, Carl Grantham and Sam Lavender.
Honorary pallbearers are the Former employees of B.F. Goodrich, Members of Southside Methodist Church, and employees of West Alabama Hospice.
