Mary Helen Shallington, age 71, of Smithfield, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024, in her home. She was born in Johnston County, on January 23, 1953, to the late Elwood Tyndall, Jr. and Jessie Jones Tyndall. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Franklin Shallington, Jr.; son, Franklin Elwood; brothers, Frankie and Thomas Tyndall; sisters, Louise Moore and Linda White; granddaughter, Cordelia Shallington. Helen was a very compassionate lady. Her door was always open to anyone in need. She was especially passionate about caring for her family. Helen enjoyed crocheting, doing puzzles, reading, playing cards, watching Sci-Fi movies, and fishing when she was able. Her favorite pastime was her family. She will be greatly missed by all of her friends and family.

A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., in the Upper Black Creek Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma.
