Thomas was born in Derry City, the third son of William Dunlop and his first wife, Mary Anne Wallace, both from County Donegal.

Sadly, Mary Anne died 15 months after Thomas' birth and the three boys were raised by William and their step-mother, Margaret Ann Robinson.

Thomas' brother William Wallace stayed in Ireland, becoming a National School Teacher and then a school inspector. Their brother John moved to Montreal in 1905 and spent his career in the Pension Department of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). About 1909 Thomas followed his brother John to Canada, settling on the opposite coast in Vancouver.

In 1912 Thomas married Janet Paterson from Stirlingshire, Scotland, and the couple remained in British Columbia to raise their children, Thomas and Noreen.

Before retiring in 1951 Thomas was a motorman for BC Hydro for almost 40 years. After Janet's death he married Elsie Park Heggie from Glasgow about 1960.

Family friend and BC Hydro co-worker Tom Scott is included on their stone. If Uncle Thomas was anything like his brother John (my grandfather), this would be totally in character. Grandpa never had a bad word to say about anyone and was a friend to all.
