Barbara Ione Whitlach Jackson

Barbara Ione Whitlach Jackson, 81, of Clarksburg, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord on January 23, 2024, after a strong five-year fight against pulmonary fibrosis. Even though the loss was ultimately expected, her family is profoundly saddened.
Barbara was a sweet New Year's baby, born at home on January 1, 1943, to Clarence and Irene Mason Whitlatch of Farmington, West Virginia. Barbara was one of four children: one of whom she is survived by, Patricia "Patty" Price, the late James Whitlatch and the late Randall Whitlatch. Barbara enjoyed riding bicycles around the neighborhood and being a big sister.
After graduating from Farmington High School in 1960, she earned a degree in business office and business career studies from the West Virginia Community College.
Barbara and her beloved husband, George Darrell, were blessed with over 62 years of marriage. Their first date was at a drive-in movie theatre with friends. They had a marriage full of fun, laughter, and quality family time. George and Barbara are blessed with two children, Tina and Monica.
Sewing and gardening were just a few of Barbara's hobbies. She also enjoyed traveling to visit family in Virginia, Florida, and New York. Some of her favorite memories were family vacations, road trips, picnics, enjoying West Virginia and Pittsburgh Steelers football and most of all, spending summers with her grandchildren.
Barbara had a career spanning almost 60 years: Owen's Illinois Glass Company, Alcan Aluminum, Harrison County Prosecutor's Office, the United Methodist Temple. She continued her career as a legal secretary for the late attorney, Stephen A. Wickland and retired from James A. Harris and the family at Harris, Wilson, Turner & Davisson.
Barbara was a devoted member of the United Methodist Temple Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and participated in various women's circles. Barbara was very active in three Masonic-affiliated organizations where she held various positions and enjoyed philanthropic work and friendships. Barbara was a Past High Priestess for the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America (LOSNA), a Past Grand Royal Matron for the Order of the Amaranth and a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Barbara was predeceased in death by her parents, Clarence and Irene Mason Whitlatch; brothers, James and Randall Whitlatch; grandparents, William and Katherine Whitlatch and Lester and Stella Mason; father and mother in-law, George and Virginia Jackson; brothers-in-law, John Price and Richard Gifford; sister-in-law, Barbara Whitlatch and her nephew, Alan Gifford.
She is survived by her husband, George Darrell Jackson, her daughters and sons-in-law Tina and Oscar Calderon of Middleburg, FL and Monica and Brian Adams of Mineral, VA; her unofficially adopted daughter, Sheila Drake of Washington, DC; three grandchildren, Erica Child and her husband Rob of Armonk, NY, Ryan Calderon of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Amanda Adams of Albany, GA; seven great-grandchildren, Arianna, Aiden, Ashton, and Axel Calderon, Akelius Canilao, and Fiona and Penelope Child. Also surviving is her beloved sister, Patricia "Patty" Price; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Gifford and Pamela Blagg and her husband Bruce; nieces, Tonya Barnes and Jennifer Encinosa and her husband Peter; nephews Joe Barnes and his wife Tammy, James Whitlatch and Christopher Blagg; several cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, many friends and neighbors and her teacup schnauzer, Abby, that she adored.
Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison St, Nutter Fort, WV 26301 on Sunday, February 4, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. At the conclusion of the visitation, a service will be held by the Order of the Amaranth, followed by the LOSNA, at 4:30 p.m.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Michael Burge and Pastor John Langenstein officiating. Interment will follow at the Grandview Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum, 93 Grandview Cemetery Road, Fairmont, WV 26554.
A luncheon following the services will be hosted by the United Methodist Temple, 665 Locust Ave, Clarksburg, WV 26301.
The family would like to give their utmost gratitude and appreciation to the nursing and medical staff of the University of Virginia Medical Center and the Hospice of the Piedmont's Center for Acute Hospice Care. Their loving, passionate and dedicated care was essential to Barbara's final journey home.
