Our beloved Carolyn Welch Lange, 81, of Richmond, VA passed away on Sunday, January 28th, 2024. She was surrounded in love and prayer from her family and friends the days before. She was preceded in death by her father, Harley Commodore Welch, Jr. and mother, Mildred L. Welch. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 52 years, Bernard (Bernie) W. Lange, Jr.; two loving children, Steven and Jenny; her beautiful and treasured granddaughter, Zemi, to whom she was known as "Mimi"; her sister Elizabeth A. Kemp (Betsy) husband, (Howard); four sisters-in-law, Mary Lange Riscassi (Louis), Sr., Anne Marie Lange, OSB., Sr. Charlotte Lange, OSB., Elynor M Lange, and many nieces and nephews. Carolyn was born in Waynesboro,VA on March 16, 1942. She grew up in the Shenandoah Valley and called Staunton, VA her home. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, Staunton, VA, in 1960, and then graduated from Grace Hospital School of Nursing, Richmond VA, in 1963. Carolyn was a Registered Nurse and worked for St. Mary's Hospital from its opening in 1965, and working mainly in the Emergency Room for over 40 years. Carolyn was talented and passionate and pursued many interests. Carolyn was past President of the K-Cettes, Knight of Columbus Council #395, ladies auxiliary. She loved singing in the church choir, gardening, volunteering at Maymont and volunteering as a Henrico County Master Gardener. She also loved to play the piano, paint, and has many beautiful pieces in her collection. Carolyn was a devoted friend to all that knew her; she made everyone in her life feel loved and supported as she never missed a dance performance, softball game, school event, play-date with her granddaughter, and we will miss her dearly. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Rd., Henrico, VA, 23229, on Friday February 9th at 12:30pm, preceded by visitation with family starting at 11:30am. Interment will follow in the Church's Columbarium and a reception will immediately follow the service to celebrate her life.
