1st Lt. Tim Cunningham of Alvin, Texas attended school in Hurst and Rusk before his family moved to Alvin when he was a junior in high school. He graduated from Alvin High School in 2000. While in high school, Tim played baseball, ran track, served as PALS president, was a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council. He was very involved in each of the communities where his family lived, working as a volunteer, traveling out of the country on mission trips, and assisting where needed in his church and school. His greatest joy was working with the Officer's Christian Fellowship and with Cadet Chapel Sunday school, giving back to the professors and fellow officers by ministering to their children. He attended Texas A&M University where he applied for and received a NROTC scholarship. He remained there for a year before earning appointment to West Point, following his brother to the military academy where he received a nuclear engineering degree. While at West Point, Tim received several awards and recognitions and made hundreds of lifelong friends. He and a couple of his friends even took a backpacking trip to the Rob Roy Trail in Scotland during one of his spring breaks. He joined the Army in May 2006 and came to Fort Campbell in April 2007. The infantry officer completed U.S. Army Ranger school and earned a Parachutist Badge. His awards and decorations include: National Defense Service Medal; Iraqi Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Combat Infantry Badge; Parachutist Badge; and Ranger Tab.
