Renee June Barker Melville
Oct 12, 1935 - Jan 27, 2024

Renee June Barker Melville passed away at home on January 27, 2024 (Note Lived in Cottonwood Heights). She was born October 12, 1935, in Taylorsville, Utah {Note born at the hospital in Murray}, the daughter of Alvin Barker and June Anderson Barker.

Renee grew up living on the family farm with three older brothers and her younger sister. Her fondest childhood memories surround life with her parents and siblings in Taylorsville.

While attending Granite High School, she met a young Marvin Melville. They were sealed on June 3, 1957, in the Salt Lake Temple. Renee attended Brigham Young University then The University of Utah, where she excelled in musical performance, to include winning Songfest and being crowned Snow Queen. Her accomplishments included composing and directing the sorority groups at both universities. Renee graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in education.

Renee was always involved with music and writing original programs. She fostered musical abilities in others by assembling family and groups for sing-a-longs while accompanying "at the drop of the hat" on the piano. She served faithfully in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to include Relief Society President in her stake and wards. A highlight of her service was to host and provide meals to the Church General Authorities at the Jordan River Temple dedication.

One of the many talents Renee enjoyed was creating homemade gifts for neighbors. She is still well-remembered for warm wheat bread, fudge, pecan rolls, and tea rings. Renee excelled in handcrafts, to include sewing and embroidery. She was an incredible hostess, opening her home to others and setting the most beautiful tables.

Renee demonstrated grace and dignity as she endured her illness. She is survived by her daughters: Marti (Mark) Melville, Shari (Mickey) Taylor, Mindy (Brad) Fogg, Shelly Andresen, and Molly (Lane) Mansell, and her sweetheart of 66 years, Marvin, as well as her 29 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren, her siblings: Richard Barker, Shyrl Barker, Duane Barker, and Sandra "Penny" Dunn.

Her greatest love and devotion were to her family, her husband, and to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Renee continued in her unwavering faith and testimony of the Savior.

Renee could often be heard to say, "You should always find something to look forward to."
