Joseph was the son of James Corey Covey & Mary Lamphere. He married to Martha Unknown about 1800 in New York. Martha died soon after and they had no children. He married a 2nd time to Amy Wightman on August 9, 1801 in Guilford, Chenango, New York. To this union, 2 children were born:

Joseph served in Captain David Hecok's Company of Militia, Dutchess County, New York.
Shown as a Private in the war of the revolution. He served in the 3rd Dutchess County under Colonel John Field and Captain David Hecock. He volunteered in Sep 1775, Dutchess County, New York and served in Field's Regiment of Dutchess County, New York, Militia.

His widow, Amy, was age 74 in 1856. She lived in New York when she appliedfor husband's pension. She received a Bounty Land Warrant.

State pf New York } On this 1st day of january 1856 befor e me a Justice of the
County of cortland } within and for the County and State af oresaid Amy Covey
aged 74 years a resident of Willett in said County and Stat e aforesaid who being duly
sworn according to law declares that she is the widow of Jo seph Covey deseased who was a private in the company comman ded by Captain_______in the war of the Revolution. That he r husband the said Joseph Covey did apply for a pension som e time in the year 1835 or 1836 for his services in said wa r. She further states that she was married to said Joseph C ovey in Guilford Chenango County New York on or about the n inth day of August in the year 1801 by one Esquire Phelps a nd that her name before her said marriage was Amy Wrightman . That there is neither private or public record of her sai d marriage within her knowledge. That her said husband die d in Willett Cortland County New York on the 30th day of Au gust 1839 and that she is still a widow and has been sinc e his death.

She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining th e bounty Land to which she may be entitled to under the ac t approved March 3d 1855. She further declares that she ha s not received a warrant for bounty land under this or an y other act of Congress nor made other application therefor.

Joseph is buried in the Covey Family Plot, with his wife Amy and both their children, Joseph Jr. & Ruth in Section B-6 ,Lot 34.
