Passed away at Lakewood Quarters Nursing Home Friday evening, Oct. 5, 2001, following a lengthy illness. A retired personnel director for Blue Cross, he was born Dec. 4, 1914, in Forest, Ohio, and was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen H. and Florence Bailey Balliet; five brothers; four sisters; and a daughter, Deanna DeRos- sett Hunter. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bobbie Funderburk DeRossett Balliet; a son and his wife, the Rev. Alan Eugene and Betty Sue Balliet, Jackson, Miss.; a son and his wife, David and Roberta DeRossett, Baton Rouge; six grandchildren and spouses, Robin Raiford and Bobby, Baton Rouge, Scott Balliet and Amy, Lisa King and Marc, all of Jackson, Miss., Staff Sgt. John DeRossett, U.S. Air Force, Warner Robins, Ga., and Susan Hicks and Carl and Robert DeRossett and Gina, all of McKinney, Texas; ten great- grandchildren, Ivy King, Allison and Shelby Balliet, Christopher DeRossett, Jordan, Justin and Jana Hicks, and Cory, Kyle, and Caitlin DeRossett; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a much-decorated U.S. Army infantryman during World War II, and participated in campaigns in France and Germany with the 100th Infantry Division. Visitation at Hollabaugh-Spindle Funeral Home, 1553 Wooddale Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, and from 10 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Monday, conducted by Dr. Burn Page. Interment will follow with military honors in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. He was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the church.
