Funeral services for Virginia Dare Carlton, 89, of Stigler, are being held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mallory-Martin Chapel in Stigler with the Rev. Robert Maxwell Jr. officiating.

Mrs. Carlton was born May 9, 1918, in Brooken, to George Washington and Carrie Myrtle (Baker) Benson. She died Sunday, April 19, 2008, in Fort Smith, Ark.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen Carlton-Hurst and her husband, J, of Sallisaw; one son, C. W. Cariker and his wife, Loetta, of Drumright; two sisters, Darlene Baker of Tulsa and Shirley Smith of Stigler; eight grandchildren, Jimmy Dean, Rusty Cariker, Tina Harrison, Christopher Cariker, Ami Scoggins, Jessie Hurst, Stephen Webster and Audy Webster; 19 great-grandchildren; and extended family, Donna and Leon Webster of Whitefield.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell Cariker, her late husband, A.L. "Fat" Carlton, one son, Russell Ervin Cariker, her parents, four brothers, Roland, Ervin, Lee and Rudolph and two sisters, Wanda and Evelyn.


Pallbearers are James Dilbeck, Ernie Hollifield, Mark Moseley, Tom Fletcher, Mike Benson, Rick Russell and Eugene Rhodes.
