Isaac and Lucinda Howland met in 1860. In 1860 census of Mound City, Linn, Kansas, they are listed with two children (Charles and Lillian Howland) she had with a first marriage. Their first child, Amanda, was born in January 1862 in Sangamon County, Illinois and that is where their marriage was recorded August 16, 1862. Perhaps it was delayed by Civil War. By May 1865, they were back living in Mound City, Linn County, Kansas with four children: the two Howland children and two of their own (Amanda J and Maggie Bell).

Isaac moved his family to Cass County, Missouri by July 1867, where their third child, Mary Anna, was born. Isaac's younger brother, Absalom, also lived in Cass County, but died there 1869 and his father, who had moved to Miami County, Kansas (a few miles away) also died in a few months later in 1869. In the 1870 census, Isaac, Lucinda, and family are still in Cass County and so is Absalom's widow and family.

When Isaac's wife, Lucinda, died, he married his brother's widow, Nancy Jane (Carter) Casida about 1873 in Cass County, Missouri. By March 1875, the two combined Casida families were living in Hillsdale, Miami, Kansas.

Isaac and Nancy had three children together: Nellie was born in Cass County, Missouri; Minnie and James Fred Casida in Miami County, Kansas.

Isaac died in Miami County, Kansas in 1911. Nancy died there in 1923.
