Neva J. Atchley passed away peacefully on January 20, 2024, in Denison at the age of 84. She was born to Thomas Jackson and Juanita (Simmons) Mason on October 2, 1939, in Van Alstyne, Texas, she was one of seventeen children. She loved her family, but she was no nonsense and ran a tight ship. She placed her children's needs ahead of her own and made sacrifices to provide for them. Neva was stubborn, hardheaded, and opinionated; she was not shy about telling what was on her mind. She was a lady of hospitality and warmth, welcoming people to her home and no one left hungry. She was a true friend. She was a great cook, she said "If she didn't cook it, it wasn't made right". She was the "master of casserole" She baked cakes, pies, and cobblers of all kinds; all were made with love. Neva's work career was primarily as a baker with Baker's Dozen, Sherman for many years. Later she was the cook for Hill Top Haven Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hugh Gene Atchley; son, Lonnie Charles Atchley; brothers, Jack Mason, Jr., Thomas Mason, Donald Ray Mason, Robert Mason, James Mason, David Lee Mason, Johnnie V. Mason; sisters, Delma Jean Chaney, Ida Mae Harmon, and Jessie Harmon.
