Clyde Roland Garriott age 94, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Monday, January 22, 2024, at the Veteran's Home in Mexico, Mo.

He was born on May 11, 1929, in Portland, Mo., the son of Orvey Henry and Dorothy Pearl (Nichols) Garriott. He was married on March 17, 1963, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Jacqueline Ann Hackney who passed away on April 29, 2015.

After graduating from Mokane High School in 1947, Clyde continued his educational career at Bob Jones University, receiving a master's degree in art and divinity.

Clyde dedicated himself to serving the United States Army, contributing honorably to our country. Subsequently, he embarked on a professional journey, stepping into his role as a prison chaplain with the Missouri Department of Corrections, a ministry he was proud to be a part of for over 30 years. In addition to his full-time position, Clyde also served as a minister to numerous churches in the area, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to providing spiritual guidance and support.

Clyde's firm commitment to his faith was evident in his active engagement at Concord Baptist Church. Additionally, he dedicated himself to significant roles within the Gideons International Association, the Rock of Ages Prison Ministry, and always held a deep passion for child evangelism. Through his enthusiastic involvement in these organizations, Clyde exemplified unwavering dedication to sharing his faith and offering support in diverse areas.

Not only did Clyde find pleasure in reading but also expressed his creativity by authoring numerous books and poems, later becoming a published author. Alongside his literary pursuits, he took joy in watching Dallas Cowboys Football and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball. He was a skilled handyman, tackling countless home renovation and improvement projects. Devoted to his family, Clyde celebrated 50 years of marriage and together, he and Jacqueline laid a strong foundation of faith in their home. Family moments were enriched by his love for playing board games and dominoes, and he worked diligently to ensure Christmas was a joyous time of year for his children. An intelligent man, he was skilled in reading both Greek and Hebrew languages and the scenic beauty of the Lake of the Ozarks made it a cherished family destination.
Clyde embodied a quiet and reserved demeanor, characterized by honesty and strong work ethic. He approached politics with seriousness and was strong in his convictions. Cherishing moments with family, Clyde took pleasure in revisiting memories and imparting family knowledge and genealogical information to his children.

Clyde is survived by his children, Mark Garriott of Lincoln, Ill., Sarah Carpenter (Vernie) of Corning, Ark., and Jon Garriott (Sara), of Jefferson City, Mo.; brother, David Garriott of Callaway County, Mo.; grandchildren, Kristin Kelly, Malissa Lindquist (Nathan), Courtney Clarke (Mike), Nathan Garriott (Autumn Bush), Rachel Janes (Matt Conway), Emily DaVault (David), Matt Carpenter (Kelsey), Julie Zerby (Joe), Ben Garriott (Meara Perkins), and Montana Green (Dakota Proctor); and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Jacqueline; daughter-in-law, Robyn Andrews; parents, Orvey and Dorothy Garriott; brothers, Eugene and Orvey; and sisters Barbara and Lena Belle.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Concord Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Concord Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Monte Shinkle officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Centertown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Rock of Ages Prison Ministry P.O. Box 2308, Cleveland, Tn., 37320.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Freeman Mortuary.
