The eldest of the four children of Orin & Lucille Thornton, Jerry was born in his grandparents' home in Waterford, Washington County, OH in 1940. He held the unique role of being the only son in the family - a role he took seriously.
Jerry's strong love for the performing arts, particularly acting and music of a variety of genres, was infectious. Jerry earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Thiel College, Greenville, PA, having performed in many roles as part of the theatre department.
In 1971 Jerry settled in Tucson, Arizona with his new wife, Mary Ann (Byrer), and her son Tommy. The family was soon complete with the addition of their son, Alan, in 1971. Life in Arizona included a 27-year career in Social Work service with the Pima County indigent health care programs from which Jerry retired in 1998.
Over time, interest in family/ancestral history took firm root in Jerry's heart, prompting discussions with extended family members, significant research & record keeping, as well as trips to various cemeteries in several states.
Throughout his life, Jerry was a sensitive, generous, loving friend, brother, son, uncle, and father. We are richer for your role in our lives.
"You were the kindest of men, the warmest of hearts, the brightest of lights, and the most gracious of souls" ~ Alan Thornton
