Darlene Katherine Ann Marquette Davis
OCTOBER 9, 1931 – MAY 16, 2023

Darlene Katherine Ann Marquette Davis, 91, our sweet little mother, grandmother, and friend, passed from this life on a bright, sunny afternoon, May 16, 2023. She will be forever missed, but we are so grateful to know that she is back in heaven with Don, the love of her life, and her Heavenly Father.

Darlene was born to Walter and Alvina Marquette on October 9, 1931, in Pine Island, Minnesota. Darlene grew up in Minnesota, the fourth of six siblings – Leonard, Lester, Clifford, William, and Dorothy. Her very statuesque and strong father raised their family on 180 acres of property, with dairy cattle, horses, pigs, chickens, and raised hay and other crops. She loved living in the country, playing outside with her older brothers, and riding horses.

Darlene received her high school diploma from Lincoln High School in Lake City, Minnesota. She later moved to Portland, Oregon, to live with a childhood friend, Betty Quindt, and her parents. Darlene was introduced to Donald Davis, thus beginning a new chapter in her life. She dated Don and quickly fell for this kind, loving man while he was stationed in Portland.

They were married on Saturday, June 7, 1952, a day before Don was ordered to ship out of Portland. In 1953, after they moved back to Don's home in Salt Lake City, their first child, Kathy, was born. Then came their second daughter Sandra, who was born in 1955, followed by their only son Steven, born in 1958. Home was always the best place to be. Mom enjoyed her clean house, ironing, sewing, gardening, caring for all our needs, and teaching her kids how to help. She made the best pies, cookies, and amazing loaves of bread in town. She often would give them to neighbors and friends.

Mom, Dad, and the kids all loved to travel with their camping trailer. Mom was always ready with everything neatly packed and meals prepared to take along. Mom loved to swim, hike, and camp with her family and enjoyed preparing holiday dinners and summer barbecues with extended family and friends.

In later years, she and Dad spent much of the wintertime living in St. George. They had so much fun meeting new friends, square dancing, and taking long walks together. It was the perfect getaway for them. Often friends and relatives would stay with them, and Mom was always happy to have company.

For the past two years, Mom lived at The Ridge Cottonwood. We wish to say thank you to the kind and caring staff there. Mom would always say she was so lucky to live in such a beautiful place, surrounded by many people who cared about her. We would also like to thank Utah Home Health and Hospice nurses Bailey and Consuela. They made mom so comfortable and happy during her final days.

Darlene is survived by her sister Dorothy; children Kathy Scott (Brad), Sandy Kettle (Dan), and Steve Davis (Cathy); 12 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her dear husband Don, parents, and 4 brothers.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 22, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends may visit family from 1:00 – 1:45 pm at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary. The interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
