Thaddeus Ponds Jr, TJ, a dedicated African American veteran who selflessly served in the US Navy, peacefully passed away on November 23, 2023, at the age of 71. Born in Fort Myers, Florida in 1952, Thaddeus was the son of Thaddeus and Annie Ponds. He grew up in a loving family that instilled in him values of honor, courage, and integrity. Thaddeus life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his country. He joined the military at a young age, driven by a profound sense of duty. During his service, he demonstrated remarkable leadership and dedication, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues. His dedication to his fellow soldiers and his nation was unwavering, and he received numerous awards for his exceptional service. Outside of his military career, TJ had a passion for strategic thinking. He enjoyed indulging in games of dominoes and backgammon where he showcased his keen intellect and strategic prowess. This game mirrored his approach to life, where he approached challenges with thoughtful consideration and determination. TJ was a loving father, son, and brother. He cherished his family deeply and always made time for them. He shared his experiences and wisdom with his children, instilling in them a strong sense of responsibility and love for their country. TJ's legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and fellow service members. He is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years Sherry, his children, Catina (Roland), Bobby, Chandra, and Characa (Javon) his grandchildren, Jabriel, Kelsey, Rayne Christian, MiAngel, JaSan, Jacara, and Paisley, and his siblings, Thomas Daniels (Katherine) and Artis Ponds and his in-laws Delores Ellenwood and Winnette Crumpton. He was predeceased by his mother and father Anne and Thaddeus Ponds, his sisters Debra Thomas and Thadetta Ponds-Sylvester, and in-laws Leatha Crumpton, Alto Crumpton and Kent Crumpton.
