Maxine Roberson Allen, affectionately known as "Grandma Mac", age 94, of Southport, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Also, known as "Queen Maxine" she was the matriarch of the family, loving and protecting us to the end.

Mrs. Allen was born February 7, 1929 in Vance County, NC, daughter of the late Morton and Annie Roberson. She was a graduate of Henderson High School and a member of Harriet Baptist Church in Henderson. Mrs. Allen retired from the Vance County Public Schools Nutrition Program. Admired by all for her strength and faith. Raising her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren gave her the most joy. She was so proud of each and everyone. She loved celebrating life's moments & gathering family, especially at Christmas. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, decorator and entertainer. Some of her hobbies were bargain shopping,golf, bowling, and ceramics. After retirement she loved to travel with The Golden Age Club and friends. She moved to Southport at age 89, sitting on the waterfront eating a cheeseburger by day and watching the sunsets with a glass of wine by night.

Survivors include her three children, John Thomas Allen, Jr. and wife Gail, Rodney Allen and wife Vicki, Ellen Herring and husband Davey; daughter-in-law, Linda Allen Fiske; son-in-law, Ray Brooks; ten grandchildren, Leslie Mangum and husband Danny, Allison Pearce, Brooke Allen, Austin Brooks, Lauren Brooks, Morgan Allen, Charles Morgan Allen, Jr., John Renn, Jamie Pederson and husband Jackson, and Jasmine Watkins; five great-grandsons, Alex Pearce, Tyson Pearce, Eli Pearce, Zeke Pearce, and Davis James Pederson; and loving cousins, Pam House, Maryann Jones, and Martha Roberson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Allen, Sr.; two children, Minda Allen Brooks and Charles Morgan Allen, Sr.; two brothers, Carlton Roberson and Winfred Roberson; and a sister, Peggy Roberson Denton.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday, January 20th from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Lois Jane's 106 W Bay Street, Southport. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Southport Community Building on Saturday, February 3rd from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

A graveside service will be held at Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Henderson, NC on Sunday, February 11th at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends at the gravesite following the service.

The family would like to give a special thank you from the bottom of our heart to all who cared for her over the last year, especially her best friend/ sister Pam & Ms Gail. All of her caregivers from Lower Cape Fear Lifecare at home and at the center. Heartfelt gratitude to her Nurse Pam!
