Don Vinton Grimm, 89 of Ashland passed away Friday evening, January 5, 2024 in the Kingston of Ashland.

He was born on May 7, 1934 in Bucyrus, Ohio, the son of the late Irvin Roy and Lillie Hazel (nee Bippus) Grimm.

Growing up Don was an active participant in music and in Boy Scouts. While in the Boy Scouts, he earned the prestigious Eagle Scout Award.

Don graduated from Bucyrus High School, Class of 1952. He furthered his education at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio. After attending Otterbein for two years, Don interrupted his education to serve in the United States Navy as a Musician Petty Officer second class for four years. He then returned to Otterbein to complete his Bachelor of Science in Music Education in 1961.

Don taught music education (primarily instrumental music) for 37 years. He taught the last 30 years in the Crestview Local Schools and retired in 1994.

While at Otterbein, he met fellow student and Westerville native, Nancy Ellen Whipp in the university orchestra. They married December 21, 1957 and enjoyed 62 years of marriage before her death, November 20, 2020.

Don enjoyed woodworking. He built many book cases for family and friends. He also built mail, music and book storage systems and made conducting podiums for Crestview and Ashland University offices. He also taught student "mini-classes" on building wooden tool boxes as well as birdhouses.

Don is survived by daughter Denise Grimm, Denise's husband, Doug Pickersgill of Ashland; three step grandchildren, Bryson, Dustin (Ben) and Lauryn (Brayden) Pickersgill along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Don is preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy (Harold) Mollencop and Elizabeth Efaw; brother William (Marie) Grimm; brother and sister-in-law, James and Lois Whipp; and three nephews.

A special thank you goes to Kingston of Ashland for their loving care of Don.
