Basil Ernest Ballard, 89, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024. He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Ernest and Lola Brown Ballard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrna Oates Ballard; his sister, Betty Bollinger; and his nephew, Douglas Roberts. Mr. Ballard was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was a very faithful man who loved the LORD, his family, his church, and his community. He was known as a prayer warrior and was a Deacon at New Faith Baptist Church. He was a member of the Lion's Club of Stanley. Mr. Ballard is survived by his daughter, Melanie Ballard Wykle; his grandchildren, Benjamin Ernest Grant (Taylor), and Kaitlyn Grant; his great-grandson, Griffin Ernest Grant; his sister, Judy Roberts; his nieces, Gail Morris (Gary), Annette Crawford (Ernie), Cheryl Gibby (Stephen), and Sandra Clemmer (Larry); and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Ballard will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly. Pastor Zachary Stewart will officiate.
