He was ordained in 1933 and served on the Prince William, Digby Neck-Weymouth, Hampton, St. Andrews and Shelburne Pastoral Charges, all in the Maritime Conference.
From 1961 to 1967 he was Associate Secretary of Christian Education for the Conference, with headquarters in Sackville, N.B. He was honoured by Pine Hill with the degree of Doctor of Divinity, Honoris Causa, in 1969.
Retiring in 1973, he started work for the Drew Home for Senior Citizens in Sackville, N.B., in 1975 and supplied for the Point de Bute-Jolicure Pastoral Charge from October 1976 until just prior to his death.
He is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy May Saunders, three daughters, Connie (Mrs. William Porter) of Calgary; Helen Faye (Mrs. Richard Moody) of St. John's; and Mary (Mrs. Keith Burton) of Riverside, N.B. There are six grandchildren and three brothers, Bert of Oromocto, N.B., Ralph of Orillia, Ontario, and Perley of Carmel, N.Y.
Dr. Barker died March 2, 1979. Funeral Service was conducted from the Sackville United Church, by Rev. Gordon Stewart, assisted by Rev. Victor MacLeod, Chairman of Chignecto Presbytery, and Rev. J. H. Tye, Executive Secretary of Maritime Conference. Interment was in the Sackville Cemetery, Sackville, New Brunswick.
