In the early morning of January 12, 2024, Donald Edward Short, 88, passed away peacefully in his sleep, at home, after a brief illness. Dad lived a long, full life, but was ready to be with his wife, and we take comfort knowing they are together again. Don is predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Marilyn Kay (Snover) Short (2014), his parents Howard W. Short (1973) and Gertrude (Schnetzler) Short (1992), his brothers Howard W. Short, Jr. (1934) and Richard B. Short (1994), his granddaughter Sheri N. Lunn (2017). He is survived by daughters Dianne L. Lunn, Hilton, NY, and Carolyn L. (Jamey) Cooper, Vestal, NY, grandsons Steve Lunn and Dan Lunn, Hilton, NY, granddaughter Laura (Jimmy) Splawn, Spartanburg, SC, great-grandson Zachary Lantz and soon-coming great-granddaughter Emma Grace Splawn, step-granddaughter Victoria McGinn (Ryan), step-great grandsons Jack and Luke McGinn, step-grandson Anthony (Alexa) Cooper, brother-in-law Donald Snover, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as his special grand-puppy Chloe. Special thanks to John and Doris Rovente who treated Don as family. Don was born in Tupper Lake, NY and moved with his family to Endicott in 1942. He graduated from Union-Endicott High School in 1953. Just after graduation, Don was hired by IBM as an apprentice tool maker, then worked in Owego, NY for 36 ½ years making several contributions to the Space Program with NASA throughout his professional career. He retired on 1/1/1990 as Project Manager of Automated Equipment Maintenance. After retiring, Don and Marilyn enjoyed time with family and friends, and did a lot of traveling. They made many special memories and friends along the way. Don was a lifelong hunter and fisherman, doing both by the time he could walk. He was also a Yankees baseball fan, until he defected by becoming a Mets fan, much to the dismay of his daughters. Don was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, Endwell, where he served as a deacon, elder, and usher throughout the years. He was also a member of IBM's Quarter Century Club, the Elks Club Lodge No. 1977 Endicott, and the Round Hill Masonic Lodge #533 of Endicott. His most recent earned title was Regional Master in the American Contract Bridge League, in which he played in his later years. Funeral services will be held Thursday January 18th at 12 Noon at the Leon Pucedo Funeral Home, Inc. 1905 Watson Blvd. Endicott, NY, with the Rev. Robert Peak officiating. Burial will follow in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell, NY. The family will receive friends at the Pucedo Funeral Home on Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of service at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, Don would love if you would do something kind for someone else, just to put a smile on their face.
