On December 27, 2023, Robert (Bob) Henry Braun passed peacefully from this life into the loving arms of the Lord. While it's impossible to capture 90 years in just a few paragraphs, it's safe to say "Bumper" will always be remembered for his devotion to God, love for his family, and sense of humor. His legacy will live on through the many stories he told and the memories of those who had the opportunity to know him.
Bob was born on May 17, 1933, in Neenah, Wisconsin to the late Henry and Ella (Brendick) Braun. He graduated from Menasha High School with the class of 1951 and worked as a tool and die maker at Marathon (Fort James) in Menasha for 47 years before he retired.
In 1954, Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as an infantryman supporting the post-World War II occupation of Germany. He was proud of his service and eagerly shared stories from his Army days with anyone who would listen. He was honorably discharged in 1957.
On July 16, 1960, he married the love of his life, Betty Hanshaw, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Menasha. They were blessed with four children and 60 years of marriage before the Lord called Betty home to Heaven in 2020.
Christ was the cornerstone of Bob's life. He was a charter member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Menasha where he strengthened his faith, built many friendships, and humbly served on various boards and committees over several decades.
Bob was a life-long supporter of Wisconsin sports teams, through good seasons and bad. He even braved the cold during the legendary "Ice Bowl" to cheer on the Green and Gold as they fought their way to victory. Bob had a passion for playing golf and would get out on the course as often as he could. He also played basketball and baseball in his younger years. In addition to sports, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends.
Bob is survived by his children: Tom (Nancy) Braun, Tim (Rita) Braun, Laura (Erik) Kemps, Larry (Monya) Braun; grandchildren: Christi (Ed) Horne, David (Mykayla) Braun, Paul (Carly) Braun, August and Noah Braun, Bernie and Henry Kemps; and great- grandchildren: Jade, Ada, and Ivy. He is further survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sisters Ethel Adrian and Margaret Westenberger.
A Christian funeral service will be held for Bob at Trinity Lutheran Church, 407 Oak St., Neenah on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the start of the service. Full military honors with the Neenah/Menasha Veterans Honor Guard will follow. The Kessler-Fahrenkrug Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Bethel Lutheran Church, Menasha.
The family would like to thank the staff at Island Shores in Neenah for providing exceptional care and support during Bob's final years, with special regard for Brenda, Cassie, Julie, Liz, and Tiffany.
