Chester Hocker Obituary

Chester Junior "C.J." Hocker, age 99, of Greenville, formerly of Bradford, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Everheart Hospice, Wayne Hospital, Greenville. C.J. was born in Darke County on June 10, 1924 to the (late) Chester Arthur & Sylvia Catherine (Flory) Hocker; graduate of Bradford High School, Class of 1942; was an U.S. Army Veteran serving during WWII; Insurance Agent with Independent-Bradford Insurance Agency for 26 years; was a member of the Bradford Fire & Rescue for 26 years and also had served as Past Chief; formerly was a Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and Treasurer of Bradford Church of the Brethren (Common Ground); member of Greenville Creek Christian Church, Bradford; was Clerk of School Board and Bus Driver for Bradford Schools for 16 years; former member and President of the Bradford Lions Club; and truly was an avid fisherman.

Preceded in death by his parents; wife of 67 years, Janice Pauline (Fisher) Hocker in 2015; and brother and sister-in-law, Carroll "Dean" & Iris Hocker.

C.J. is survived by his three children, Chris (Mike) Palsgrove of Bradford, Jerry Hocker of Saucier, Mississippi, and Steve (Cindi) Hocker of Bradford; six grandchildren, Tiffany (Todd) Truman of Ross, OH, Jeremy (Amy) Hocker of Virginia Beach, Sam (Richelle) Palsgrove of Covington, Bree (Anthony) Monnin of Bradford, Jess (Stacy) Hocker of Bradford, Russ (Jamie) Hocker of Bradford; 15 great-grandchildren, Megan Cales, Brelan Bryant, Scott, Katelynn, Jenna & Abby Hocker, Tanner, Kylie & Tyler Palsgrove, Courtney & Landon Monnin, Ryan & Mackenzie Hocker, Taven Leach & Chloe Hocker; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service 2:00 PM Thursday at Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Bradford with Pastor Daryl Peeples officiating. Interment Miami Memorial Park Cemetery, Covington with Military Honors provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad.

Visitation 12 Noon Thursday at the funeral home until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bradford Fire & Rescue and/or Greenville Creek Christian Church.
