Earl G. Hannah, 78 of Girard, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024, at his residence. Earl was born June 11, 1945, in Royalton, IL, a son of Karol and Irene Johnson Hannah. Earl graduated from Virden High School with the class of 1963. He married Kathy Finney in the Girard Methodist Church.

"Earl was born in southern Illinois as the 6th of eight children. His family moved to Virden when he was in fifth grade to their home on Jackson Street. He was known for his basketball skills and he held the record for highest single game score for Virden High School. He was married to his high school sweetheart Kathy for 59 years.
Earl was a life long farmer, took daily drives in his truck for Casey's coffee, and loved the art of a deal. He always had a handkerchief in his bibs pocket and was known to make a Saturday morning donut run for his grand girls.

Family was Earl's heart. He was a loving husband, father, and father-in-law. He was an involved grandfather, attending nearly all of his granddaughter's sporting events, piano recitals, and school dances. Earl was never the loudest man in the room, but people would quiet to listen to his occasional whip-smart comment that would usually leave people smiling and shaking their heads. He looked forward to the annual Hannah Family reunion every 4th of July where he could sit in a chair on the edge of the commotion and smile at all of the kids.

Heaven had a prepared place for him to pet his old four legged friends, where he can watch over his family and over the corn and bean fields."

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Faith Ilene, brother, Carl Hannah, brother, Herb Hannah, sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Nelson Sandefur.
