Jack lived in Clay Springs, Arizona, where he graduated from the eighth grade.
At the age of 14, Jack went to work for Brewer Brothers Sawmill and later at the Reidhead-Chlarson Mill in Show Low. Jack started out riding carriage and soon became an off bare-man, trimmer-man, and handy man.
Other than a short time roofing in the state of Washington, Jack worked at sawmills until 1960. In off saw mill season, he worked construction with the Brewers.
In 1960 Jack went to work for Isabell Construction Company as an apprentice carpenter building rest areas on I-40. Four months later he went to work for Tanner Construction Company as a journeyman carpenter on the Window Rock School. He then worked for D. C. Brinkerhoff Construction, Jack McCleve Construction, and Neal's Construction, before going into business for himself. In1966 until 2003, Jack ran his own construction business.
Jack built and sold houses, with the help of his boys, about 20 to 30 in Holbrook. Four or five in which the family lived for 10 years.
Commercial buildings include a large tepee & a dome (The Galleria now demolished) at Lupton, some towers at Fort Courage, and remodeled McGee's Trading Post at Keams Canyon.
In 1972 the Jack Plumb family moved to Woodruff and Jack built the home on the south end of Country Road. For a short time, the family lived on 120 acres east of Woodruff and in 1978 Jack and Erlene bought a 100-acre ranch in Woodruff, which Jack and the boys ran in conjunction with the construction business. The children and Jack enjoyed training horses and roping and ran a herd of cattle for a time.
His parents; Daughter Carla Plumb; Brothers Dewey & JM Plumb, Elmer, Charles, & Clifford Salling; Sisters Pearl Eaton, Nova Thompson, Birdie Robinson, Iva Jean Plumb, and Dorothy Salling preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife; Three sons Vic Leon (Sherri Harvey) Plumb of Thatcher, Jack Craig Plumb of Woodruff, Curtis Nelson (Beth Williams) of Holbrook; two daughters Shelly (Jim) Weeks of Safford, Stacey (Bob) Griner of Taylor; Sister Cleo Salter of Las Cruces, NM, Brother JD Salling of Wenatchee WA; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren.
