1900 U. S. Census for Center Township, Marion County shows John Poland, 59, his sons, Claud Poland, 20, and Charles Poland, 17, living at the home of his daughter, Lizzie Younger 31, and her husband William Younger, 34.

Indiana State Board of Health Certificate and Record of Death No. 168 for Indianapolis, Marion County records John Poland, 60 years, and 1-day-old widowed white male, a Liveryman, died about 7 p.m. on 27 October 1900, due to a "Broken Kneck" [sic]. His father was unknown, and his mother was Elizabeth Ricefield. Coroner G. W. Nash was the informant. Burial was at Jamestown, Boone County on 30 October 1900, Flanner and Buchanan Mortuary of Indianapolis, undertakers.
