1) Detroit Free Press, 5 Feb 1958 - Majestic Building Head Dies - Waldo Allard Avery, 79, president and half-owner of the Majestic Building, died Monday at his home, 135 Lake Shore, Grosse Pointe Farms. He was a brother of Sewell Lee Avery, former Montgomery Ward & Co. board chairman. A native of Saginaw, Mr. Avery had lived in Detroit for 7j years. HE WAS A graduate of the Michigan College of Mining and Technology, Houghton, and attended the University of Michigan, where he was a member of Fielding Yost's "point-a-minute" football team. Mr. Avery was a member of the Detroit Athletic Club, Grosse Pointe Country Club and the Multnomah Athletic Club of Portland, Ore. Surviving also are two sons, Waldo A. HI and Robert N., and two daughters, Mrs. Eleanor A. Hemstead and Mrs. Jane A. Ferguson. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the William R. Hamilton Co., 3975 Cass. Entombment will be in the family mausoleum at Woodlawn Cemetery.
